Whether you’re trying to set your New Year’s Resolutions, making a strategic plan, or sitting down with a new coach… You probably came across the concept of SMART goals - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-Bound.

If that sounds cool to you, go for it. But if the thought of squeezing your most meaningful aspirations into a dry little SMART box makes you want to rub dirt on your cheeks and run into the woods never to return… I’ve got you.

You and I both know your heart isn’t calling for SMART goals.

It doesn’t care about measurable outputs that can be checked off every quarter. It doesn’t think of your growth like an assembly line.

**What your heart longs for is SACRED goals.**

SACRED goals are beautiful and expansive. They might be tangible, or they might be about a deeper turning of the wheel. Your SACRED goal might be asking you to find your way from the version of you that struggles with something, to the version of you who has learned from it and integrated it.

SACRED goals also give as much care and attention to the process and the person setting them, as to the vision of our desired outcome.

Because SACRED goals are like life: they’re about the journey, not the destination.

So if you’re reflecting about where you want to direct your attention and energy in the year ahead, make sure you articulate the most SACRED version of your aspirations:

Self-Affirming
Aligned
Courageous
Resonant
Empowering
Durable
